Rug Cleaning in Wilmington Island

Collection and delivery in Wilmington Island are included. We take the rug back to the workshop, wash it properly, and bring it home.

The Houses

What Wilmington Island is built from

Suburban Chatham between the Wilmington River and Turner Creek, built out mostly from the 1950s onward: ranch houses, later two-storey houses, crawlspaces near the water and slabs further in, and a great many lots that end in marsh or at a creek with a dock on it.

Year-round families and boat households. Dogs, docks, and a garage that is doing at least three jobs at once.

Every Wilmington Island rug is washed at the workshop, not in the room.
What We Find Here

The Wilmington Island problem

The crawlspace under a house whose garden ends at a tidal creek is the coolest surface on the property, and the air under there sits at or near saturation for a large part of the year. A warm room above a damp floor structure means the rug is being worked on from underneath, which is why the pile is the last place it shows and why owners are surprised when the back of the rug is turned over. On top of that there is the dock. Creek mud, marine growth off a hull, bait, and river water that is brackish rather than fresh all come up the garden and through the door, and they go into the foundation of the rug rather than sitting on it. The other recurring find here is the rug that was rolled up and put in the garage — unconditioned, dark and humid, which is the beginning of both a moth problem and a mildew one.

If that sounds like your rug, send the form and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you whether it needs the full treatment or not.
